Dear ones,

"Righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people (Prov. 14:34); and Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD (Ps. 33:12). These statements of God are true; yet we are living in a time when such truths are not only ignored, but hated and viciously attacked. There is a battle raging for the soul of our nation; forces of evil are increasingly militant, and the problem isn't going away. This culture war, this struggle between sin and righteousness, goes beyond questions of the Constitution, the Republic and individual freedoms; it is a battle for the soul of the nation. Please read on, and consider what is at stake.

THE ELECTION CRISIS
The election this November will be, in my opinion, the most crucial in our nation's history. The conflict between evil and good in our decaying culture is coming out in the open, and the gloves are off. People committed to evil are no longer seeking to be tolerated--they are increasingly determined to prevail, and to stamp out all traces of God and His Word in our culture. While sodomites and pornographers are protected and encouraged, Christians and believing Jews are now hated and persecuted with only feeble and vanishing legal restraint. For a Christian or Jewish leader merely to read passages of Scripture condemning sodomy is rapidly becoming a "hate crime." In less than eight years this nation has seen wickedness not only tolerated at the highest levels of authority, but exalted, and with devastating results. Our Founding Fathers were God-fearing men, most of them professing Christians. With a "firm reliance" on God, they declared Independence, and gave us our uniquely wise Constitution, at grave risk of their "Lives, Fortunes and sacred Honor"; the question, they observed, was whether or not the people would be able to keep it. This, I believe, is what is at stake this November; it is ours to lose.

I believe that it is a grievous sin to vote for any candidate or party that tolerates or promotes the killing of innocent babies, sodomy, or the malignant flood of pornography sweeping over our land. If we are to stand someday before God and answer for every idle word spoken, we must surely answer for every vote for such a candidate or political party. Likewise, I believe, for one not to vote at all in this crucial election is a sin. Pray, inform yourself, and vote for candidates and parties which stand for godly values.

THE FLAG, THE BOY SCOUTS AND THE DEMOCRATS
For a vivid illustration of how the culture war is increasingly out in the open, consider two recent events, both studiously ignored by the establishment media. At the New York State Democratic Convention, gathered to proclaim Hillary Clinton its candidate for the Senate, the convention was provided with a color guard of uniformed New York policemen. As they marched into the hall, carrying the American Flag, they were spat upon by the delegates. Later, at the Democratic Party's National Convention, an honor guard of Eagle Scouts from Los Angeles marched in with the flag to lead the pledge of allegiance; they were greeted with boos and catcalls by the delegates. SCOUTS AND THE MEDIA ELITE
The elite of the establishment media are overwhelmingly supportive of the "gay" agenda; but they don't normally get so plainspoken on the air as this. After the supreme court decision on the Boy Scouts and homosexuals, Bob Knight of the Family Research Council was interviewed on CBS-TV by a hostile Bryant Gumble; Knight supported the Scouts' position. At the end of the interview, Knight was dismissed by an angry Gumble who declared, "What a ****ing idiot!" CBS has declined to apologize or take any other action. Meanwhile, the New York Times, in a 3 Sept editorial, blasted the Scouts with, "...in today's world children cannot learn about honor from an organization that views homosexuality as a moral defect." What the Times, CBS and the other media power elite don't recognize is that "today's world" has nothing to do with what is right or wrong; it is God who has already set forth moral law, and He calls sodomy an abomination. UNBORN BABIES FEEL PAIN
Studies in Britain are again recommending anesthetizing unborn babies before aborting them. According to one study, aborted babies as young as five months have been heard to cry! Professor Vivette Glover, a leading obstetrician, proclaiming herself pro-abortion, yet says, "One should think about how one is doing it in the most pain-free way." In England, the law already protects unborn hedgehogs from suffering! So, any reasonable, rational person should ask, if the baby is human, alive, and can feel pain and scream, how can one justify killing it, with or without anesthetic? As James Dobson so powerfully put it, "There is no (political) tent big enough for (those who defend abortion) and me!" Pray for an end to abortion, and vote for like- minded candidates. CLINTON/GORE AND THE BOY SCOUTS
In the wake of the Supreme Court's narrow (5-4) decision supporting the right of the Boy Scouts of America to exclude homosexual scoutmasters, the Scouts have come under a barrage of attacks from the pro-homosexual left, led by the Clinton/Gore White House. Characteristically, the Administration prepared to ban all Scout activities (including their traditional annual Jamboree) from federal lands. The anti-Scout program was headed by the Justice Department. The White House attack on the Scouts was quietly withdrawn after official memos about it were discovered and the story published by the Washington Times, and for now is on hold due to public outcry. Meanwhile, congressional Democrats are drafting legislation to withdraw all recognition of the Boy Scouts by the government. PEDOPHILE SCOUT LEADERS CONVICTED
The danger of having homosexuals as Boy Scout leaders is vividly illustrated by two recent cases. In one, Boy Scout camp leader Glenn Jordan, 33, El Cajon, Calif, is charged with 33 counts of molesting boys at his camp, with more charges pending. In Oklahoma City, former scoutmaster Robert Malcomb, Jr., pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of boys under the age of 14. He was already charged with 107 counts of rape, forcible oral sodomy, lewd acts with children and bestiality. His wife turned him in when she found him molesting a 12 year old boy in their home. And yet homosexual advocates proclaim that having homosexuals as scout leaders would not lead to pedophile abuse of the scouts under their leadership. (San Diego Union/FRC)

THE DODGERS CAVE IN TO HOMOSEXUAL PRESSURE
On 8 August, two lesbians (one a former porn actress) were smooching in the stands at a game in Dodger Stadium. Other fans, including parents with children, complained. The lesbians were escorted from the stadium. Seems to me like a reasonable response to inappropriate behavior. But not these days. The lesbians complained, pressure from the powerful homosexual establishment was applied, and the Dodgers caved. Dodger team president Bob Graziano immediately drove to West Hollywood and personally apologized to the two lesbians. Then the Dodgers quickly issued a public apology to the lesbians, paid them an undisclosed sum of money, instituted "sensitivity" training for security guards, and donated 5,000 free tickets to homosexual organizations. DISHONORING THE STARS AND STRIPES
We shouldn't be surprised at an openly globalist administration led by a president who during the Vietnam war demonstrated against his own country and its flag, but it is nevertheless disturbing to know the following. During the highly publicized Arab-Israeli peace talks at Camp David, the US flag was not permissible. The flags were removed at Camp David, but that's not all. Three U.S. flags were removed by federal agents from a Thurmont, Md. elementary school, used as a workplace for foreign reporters. "This is a flag-free summit," declared a government spokesman. Thurmont citizens were infuriated, and Arab and Israeli reporters were bewildered that the US should be ashamed of its flag. (FRC)

DIPPING OUR COLORS TO COMMUNIST CHINA AND VIETNAM?
As part of his presidential exodus, Bill Clinton is planning to visit two countries, both Communist dictatorships, on Navy vessels: China and Vietnam. Our Navy Regulations since 1775 have forbad the flying of the flag of any other nation "in a superior (higher) position" to the U.S. flag. Bill Clinton, not wanting to offend the Chinese and Viet Communists, is in the process of having Navy Reg's changed to allow a ship to fly the flags of China and Vietnam above our own. Even our politically correct senior Navy officers are reportedly outraged over this. (WND)

HEAD START AND GENITAL EXAMS
In this era of increasingly invasive government practices, and of increased overriding of parental rights, trouble is brewing in Head Start, the federal program to prepare pre-kindergarten children for the experience of school. In Tulsa, attorneys of the Rutherford Institute are filing suit in federal court on behalf of 13 families of Head Start children. The suit alleges that 3,4 and 5 year old children were taken to school, stripped and given physical exams, including drawing of blood and genital examination, all without parental permission or notification. Head Start officials say it is just a routine service to poor families; some of the parents see it as an invasion of family authority, a violation of trust, and a form of sexual child abuse. This is not the first such instance connected to the public school system. No matter what the outcome of the trial, this is another troubling symptom of the growing invasiveness of government--especially in dealing with children in public schools. Nationally, more than 200,000 children are participating in Head Start--all of whom must be subjected to genital examinations. (Ins)

THOSE HORRIBLE FIRES AND GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS
According to a feature story in the Washington Times, and coverage in Insight, extreme Clinton/Gore Administration actions have made the disastrous Summer fires in the West and Midwest much worse than they needed to be. Funds budgeted for fire-fighting have instead been used for other purposes, especially continued aquisition of privately owned land. Once the fires began, they have been made much worse by fire-fighting restrictions, largely inspired by extremist environmental policies. Refusal to allow thinning by loggers in recent years has made the fuel potential much worse; but even during the desperate fight to stop the fires, extreme limitations have repeatedly tied firefighters' hands. For example, firefighters have been forbidden to use bulldozers to create fire breaks, for they are associated with logging and will scar the earth. Rather, firefighters have been forced to cut the trees by hand; then, U.S.Marines have been forced to carry the downed trees away on foot, rather than have them dragged by heavy equipment and "disturb the ground." Fire retardant chemicals could not be dropped in some places for fear of injuring animals and plants in streams. In one instance, firefighters were made to cease pumping water out of a stream because lower water levels were causing water temperature to rise, endangering the trout. As a result, the fire was not stopped and its heat completely vaporized the water in the stream, killing everything in it. In short, the hot, dry weather has made the natural fires bad; but Clinton/Gore environmental regulations have made them much, much worse. (WT/Ins)

PRAYER AND SPORTS IN THE SOUTH
We are all aware of ongoing pronouncements against prayer at school athletic events, climaxed by the Supreme court's recent decision. But no court or bureaucratic ruling can completely suppress human nature. At a high school game in West Tennessee on Friday night 1 Sept., a player was injured. The other players, led by the team captain, gathered around the injured boy and prayed until an ambulance took him away. On the sideline, the cheerleaders were also praying. After the game, both teams knelt in the center of the field and prayed together. One witness observed, "What if the ACLU could see this right now!" A platoon of ACLU lawyers, reinforced by judges, bureaucrats and nervous school administrators could not have stopped those prayers on that Friday night in West Tennessee. (AFRN)

This festival of darkness and death is growing in popularity; it is now second only to Christmas in terms of money spent on it. A POINT TO PONDER
Prior to the Clinton impeachment hearings and trial, documentary evidence of the charges were on display in the Ford Office Bldg. so members of Congress could see it for themselves. Rep. Christopher Shays saw the evidence of the rape of Juanita Broddrick, which he described as "horriffic" and "vicious" rapes, "twice at the same event." Rep. Matt Salmon told the Arizona Republic that the evidence he saw in the Ford Building "left him nauseated." Rep. Mike Castle was reduced to tears by it, according to Chris Matthews of CNBC. Yet when it was up to the Senate to vote on conviction, not a single senator viewed the same evidence before voting to acquit the President. In fact, according to David Schippers, Chief Counsel for the impeachment process, Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott told him the vote in the Senate was determined in advance, shouting, "I don't care if you prove that he raped a woman and then stood up and shot her dead, you are not going to get sixty-seven votes!" This gives us much to ponder, and another reason to cast righteous votes in November. (Various)

THAT JANET RENO STATEMENT
Remember that statement that Janet Reno was supposed to have made on 60 Minutes? I mean the one about Bible-believing Christians, those who believe in the second coming of Christ, attend Bible studies, home schoolers, etc as dangerous cultists. The statement was supposed to have been made on 60 Minutes 26 June 1994, and was reported in the Good Word, Feb/Mar 1999. It appears not to have happened. I called 60 Minutes to obtain a transcript of the program and was told that the interview never occurred. The story is still making the rounds, especially via e-mail.

HOME SCHOOLERS CONTINUE TO EXCEL
For the third year in a row, home-schooled students have scored higher on the ACT college entrance exam than those in public schools. On a scale of 1 to 36, home schoolers averaged 22.8; the national average was 21. In addition, home schoolers finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the National Spelling Bee, and 2nd place in the National Geography Bee, sponsored by the National Geographic Society. (FRC/AFRN)

RESTORED CHASTITY
In the last issue I reported on the fact that most teens who have lost their virginity, regret it. Virginity is an either-or condition, and cannot be regained. One either is, or one is not. Chastity, however, is a different matter--it is a matter of attitudes and behavior. Lost virginity, therefore, is not a hopeless situation, for chastity is always possible with the Lord. When one repents of past events (whether deliberate or something forced upon him/her), there is always available that wonderful forgiveness, cleansing and the freshness of living in chastity. He can make all things new, including us; so if virginity is gone, be glad that, with Him, you can again become as chaste as an innocent little child (II Cor 5:17, Rev 21:4,5).
